Mid-Year Reset: How to Use Your Journal to Reflect & Refocus

June arrives quietly. The year is half over, and most of us haven't stopped long enough to notice.

The goals you set in January — where are they now? The intentions, the plans, the version of yourself you were going to become by summer? This isn't a guilt trip. It's an invitation. Because the mid-year point is one of the most powerful moments in the calendar to pause, reflect, and reset.

And your journal is the best tool for doing it.

Why the Mid-Year Reset Matters

Most people do a year-end review in December — when it's too late to change anything. A mid-year reset gives you six months to course-correct. Six months to double down on what's working, let go of what isn't, and recommit to what actually matters.

It's not about starting over. It's about starting smarter.

The Mid-Year Journal Reset: A Simple Framework

Set aside 30–60 minutes. Find a quiet space. Open your journal to a fresh page and work through these five prompts:

1. What has gone well in the first half of this year?

Start with wins — big and small. What are you proud of? What worked better than expected? What surprised you in a good way?

2. What hasn't gone to plan — and why?

Be honest, not harsh. What got in the way? Was it circumstances, priorities, or something you need to change?

3. What do I want the second half of this year to look like?

Not a to-do list — a vision. How do you want to feel? What do you want to have done by December?

4. What is the one thing I need to start, stop, or change?

One thing. Not ten. The most powerful resets are specific.

5. What am I grateful for right now?

End with gratitude. It reframes everything that came before it.
